Mere Green Mixed-Use Development

Commercial
Our client called for the redevelopment of their newly acquired site in the heart of Mere Green, by creating a distinctive new home for their specialist kitchen and bathroom showroom alongside high-quality residential accommodation. The ambition was to create commercially flexible space with a strong street presence, while carefully responding to the scale and character of the neighbouring residential context.
Kura’s architectural response brings these contrasting uses together within a single contemporary composition. A dramatic two-storey glazed frontage creates a showcase for the retail interior, framed in warm bronze tones and set against light buff brickwork that deliberately contrasts with the surrounding townscape. Above, the architecture transitions to a more domestic scale, with a dark standing-seam roof form and rhythm of carefully framed dormer windows defining the residential accommodation.
The building has been shaped around its context, balancing visibility and commercial presence with the need for a considered relationship to its neighbours. Access, servicing, residential privacy and movement through the site have all informed the development of the form.

The result is a confident but restrained piece of architecture: a building designed to contribute to the continuing evolution of Mere Green while establishing an identity distinctly its own.
